The Raw Art Review Poet-in-Residence: January 2020

The Raw Art Review would like to see 5 poems for the purpose of selecting a “RAR Poet in Residence” for the month of January, 2020.

The Winner of the “Poet in Residence” contest will received the following:

  1. $100 award.
  2. A dedicated “Featured Artist” web page of up to 25 poems on The Raw Art Review website.
  3. A home page post on the RAR Website for each week in October – 1 poem posted per week up front on the RAR home page.
  4. Publication in an upcoming issue of The Raw Art Review Journal.
  5. Acceptance to the shortlist for the publication of a full length or chapbook of poems in Publication Year 2020 (January – December 2020)
  6. Optional Guest editor for the RAR 2019 December Poet-in-Residence Contest

GUIDELINES (NOT RULES )

  1. There are no rules of form and content. The sole criteria for selecting a winner is the power of the emotional/psychological/spiritual and physiological impact on editors reading the poem.
  2. There are no particular trade-craft requirements. Single or double space, left-center-right justification, long lines/short lines, standard use of punctuation or not, etc.
  3. TYPOS – we understand it is difficult to catch all typos. NOTE: we will presume a typo is volitional, so for the purpose of maintaining your intent for the poem it is in your best interest to review carefully, get help from other readers, etc.
  4. Review of poems is blind. Please do not put your name or any other identifying information on your pages.
  5. Cover Letter – You can use the cover letter space provided on the submission form to provide your BIO and contact information, to discuss your poem or you can skip the cover letter entirely. What you write as a cover letter will have no bearing on selection for the prize. The cover letter will only be read after selections are made. We love reading your cover letters though – please feel free to expound.
  6. Editors are prohibited from rejecting a poem on first read. All poems get at least 2 reads before a decision is made.
  7. Editors assume you are smarter than we are. We will strive to understand your intention ; stay open-minded and try to avoid imposing our presumptions on your work.
  8. We will never use irresponsible and self-aggrandizing language to describe your work like “purple writing” or “cliche”, or “your trade-craft technique is a gimmick”.
  9. Up to 5 poems per entry. Multiple submission entries are fine but the fee applies to each additional submission of up to 5 poems.
  10. We accept Word and PDF formats. We prefer Word Format.
  11. Simultaneous submission is fine.
  12. Previously published poems are eligible provided the submitter owns the rights to republish. We are happy to recognize the original publisher upon your request.
  13. Submission Deadline is December 31, 2019.
